Memorial Day on the Colorado River
Memorial Day Weekend is quickly approaching and many families are starting to plan their relaxing escape from winter’s woes. With the snow melt comes the start of summer fun. From grilling out to whitewater rafting, Memorial Day Weekend offers the opportunity for those struck with cabin fever to shake their legs out and enjoy some fresh air. What better way to enjoy the seasonal elements than a weekend on the Colorado River.
The Colorado River is as iconic to this state as the Rocky Mountains. Offering everything from fly fishing to swimming, The Colorado is the perfect spot for both families and thrill-seekers to enjoy time away from home. Start your trip with a raft or kayak rental and float down the flat sections of the river or go on a guided tour and try your luck at the mighty Gore Canyon. Either way, be sure to pull over at one of the natural hot springs for a quick soak. Grab a little courage and jump off of one of the popular cliffs—some over 40 feet– to impress your friends and family. At one of the campsites scattered across the riverside, make yourself a traditional Memorial Weekend Barbecue lunch. Just be sure to carry out all trash to avoid any harm to the surrounding nature and animals. Finish the day fishing along the banks or making s’mores around the campfire. Be sure to take a peak up at the sky before catching some shut eye; the starry view can’t be beat.
