Sitting at 7300ft in elevation, the small town of Kremmling, Colorado boasts beautiful early season foliage. At higher altitudes, the weather cools much sooner in the season, paired with the shorter days you’ll see fall colors present themselves weeks before they’ll be spotted at lower elevation. Not to mention that the town of Kremmling, and its surrounding areas are already filled with jagged peaks, deep valleys, and beautiful headwaters like that of the Colorado River. This is a section of the Rocky Mountains that continues to offer amazing landscapes and adventures all year long.

Take a Trip Down the Colorado River

The Colorado River’s headwaters are located about two hours North-West of Fort Collins, and about an hour from Kremmling. It makes its way South-West through Kremmling en route to the Gulf of California. This upper section of the Colorado River is home to beautiful scenery, robust wildlife, and thrilling kayaking, stand-up paddle boarding, and rafting trips.

Here you’ll find class I and II whitewater’s with some stretches of slow water. Overall, it’s a great opportunity to get the family out on a guided scenic float trip down the Colorado River. You can also rent kayaks, stand-up paddle boards, and rafts on your own. Either way, you’ll have the opportunity to see some of the wildlife common in the area, including turkey vultures, beavers, and even bald eagles. Fall foliage is also beautiful near Kremmling, the best time of the year to see willow and aspen trees bright with yellow and orange among the evergreens is September through Mid-October.

Idaho Springs Where the Sky Isn’t the Limit 

If the river isn’t your thing, fear not, the town of Idaho Springs, just over an hour south of Kremmling and half an hour from Denver, now fosters some of Colorado’s most exciting and thrilling adventures. For instance, the Mount Evans Via Ferrata is an aerial obstacle course that will test your bravery and endurance. Also, the Cliffside Zipline lets you zoom past beautiful scenery as you make your way through the multiline course. These trips are offered by AVA Rafting & Zipline, a locally owned adventure company with 20+ years of experience. 

Mount Evans via Ferrata 

The Via Ferrata course embarks over the Idaho Springs and Chicago creek area, fitted with a 500-foot free fall, a 70-foot rappel, and an array of suspended bridges situated 300 feet above the beautiful Chicago creek. Just don’t look down. This course has an age minimum of 12 years old.

Idaho Springs Cliffside Zipline 

The Cliffside Zipline is also located in Mount Evans, just a couple minutes’ drive from the town of Idaho Springs. This course offers 6 lines that reach speeds of of big drops as you zig-zag down the course. This course has an age minimum of 6 years old.
