Posted by on Jun 1, 2015 in Uncategorized

Summer is quickly approaching which means warmer weather and a chance to spend some time in the fresh mountain air. June is Great Outdoors Month and a great excuse to get outside and enjoy all Colorado has to offer. Here are five ways to get outside and take advantage of the great outdoors this June:

Hike a 14er: Colorado has 58 major peaks (commonly referred to as 14ers) that exceed the 14,000 foot mark.  Hiking one of these peaks can lead to breathtaking and awe inspiring views. Wildlife sightings are also common. Thinking of tackling one of these challenging peaks? Make sure to bring the right equipment including plenty of water. You can check out more 14er safety information and view trip reports at 14ers.com

Colorado has great camping areas all over the state including one at our very own AVA Granite Outpost.  A great resource for all things Colorado camping is campcolorado.com.

Take a Walk in the Park: Need a quick break with no time to travel? Take a walk through a local park and enjoy your surroundings.  Even a few minutes of fresh air can help destress your mind and body.  Kill two birds with one stone and take the dog or kids along with you.  A day in the park is a great way for them to burn off extra energy, saving you from added stress later on.

Go for a Bike Ride:  Riding a bike is a great form of exercise and is an easy way_MG_4934_groutpost_comp to explore your surroundings.  There are bike shops all around the state that rent bicycles at an affordable rate.  Scout out trails and paths by going to coloradobikemaps.com.  Bring along a lunch and make a day out of a trail ride with the family.

Try Something New: Looking for an adventure? Try something new and exciting.  Go on one of AVA’s many rafting trips or consider a ziplining tour.  AVA has an adventure for every age and every experience level.  Try fly fishing or participate in a ATV tour.  Not sure what exactly you’re looking for? Check out AVA’s website and explore hundreds of options.

However you decide to spend Great Outdoors month, make sure enjoy your environment and let the fresh air and changing season rejuvenate your mind.
