How to Plan a July 4th River Trip

There really is no better way to celebrate Independence Day than with whitewater rafting. The whitewater is going to be great this year, so why not spend your 4th of July rafting with Colorado River Rentals! CRR and AVA Rafting & Zipline have outposts in some of the most fun small towns in Colorado, including Idaho Springs, Kremmling, and Buena Vista. Each one of these unique towns has small town charm and tons of activities for everyone to enjoy before and after you whitewater trip.

Kremmling

Meet up in Kremmling for a pancake breakfast at 7:00 am held in the middle of town. After filling up on some delicious food, head out to our outpost. Spend the sunny day on a relaxing Colorado River Float trip. For something a little more adventurous, we can bring along some stand-up paddleboards or inflatable kayaks, also known as duckies. Once you’re worn out from the sun, head back to the Town Square. There you will find the annual ‘Fire Up The Cliffs’ Celebration. There will be a BBQ dinner and a pie baking contest, as well as live music for everyone to enjoy and games for the kids. Wind down your night watching fireworks burst over the cliffs!

Buena Vista

Stop by town bright and early for a pancake breakfast. A parade through the town follows at 10:00 am. If you’re interested in being in the parade, make sure you get to City Hall by 9:30 am to register. Just a few miles down the road is the AVA outpost. Stop by for a delicious lunch consisting of sizzling chicken fajitas. After lunch enjoy some choice white water on the Arkansas River. Head back to town for hot dogs and hamburgers sold by the local Rotary Club. The fireworks in Buena Vista are a sight to be held. What better to enjoy these fireworks than zipping down the mountainside on AVA’s mountain top zip line?!

Georgetown LoopIdaho Springs

Take an early morning zip line tour and watch the sun begin to shine over the town. After your zip line tour, head down to Miner Street for a parade followed by a picnic lunch. Take a few minutes early in the afternoon to stroll through some of the unique shops in town. Head back to AVA’s outpost and take the Gold Rush whitewater tour. It’s a great way to experience the first ever Colorado mining town with the added excitement of rafting! Head down to the Georgetown Railroad at 6:00pm. Each car will have a slightly different buffet meal and you can watch the fireworks at dusk as the sun goes down while passing through Devil’s Gate railroad loop!
