Planning a Kid-Friendly Overnight Rafting Trip

Travelling with children can sometimes pose additional problems when planning your Rocky Mountain overnight rafting adventure.  How will you keep them entertained the entire trip? How will you keep their bellies full with limited equipment? Where will they..ahem..use the restroom?  Have no fear. Utilizing the following advice, your trip is sure to go smoothly and be flawless fun for the whole family.

Rogue-CampFirst things first, make sure that you know the river or that you have chosen a guided trip with a family-oriented company.  This will allow you to find entertaining stop points along the way (i.e. places to swim, sites to see, rocks to jump off of).  Consider bringing along a deck of cards or water toys for the kids to utilize during meal and camp set up.  Along these lines, plan meals that the kids can help with. Meals they can cook on their own over the fire will help take their minds off of waiting for dinner. Make sure you come prepared with plenty of pre-packaged snacks kept safe from the water in a dry bag, as tummies will start rumbling while working hard paddling on the river.  Finally, be sure to pack a groover with the rest of your essentials.  What’s a groover, you may ask? A groover is a portable potty that makes doing your business a breeze.  With a groover there is no fear that your children won’t have an accessible place to empty their bladders.

If all this seems like a bit too much planning, consider doing a guided overnight trip with Arkansas Valley Adventures.  Kid-friendly and family oriented, AVA is well versed in the needs of kids and will have all the essentials pre-packed.  For more information on guided overnight trips, contact an agent by calling 877-RAFTING.
