The Best Camping Near Kremmling, Colorado
We’re ready for spring. Though there’s a few more flurries on the forecast, we’re already compiling our camping list for Kremmling this year. This beautiful central Colorado location is perfect for early spring activities as it is located at 7,200 feet, leaving you with sunny and warm days earlier in the season. Kremmling is not known for it’s main street stretch, but rather world class camping and outdoor recreation. Make your way over to Kremmling this spring for a weekend in the backcountry! Here’s where you should camp this season.
Pumphouse Campground
At the very top of our list is the Pumphouse Campground just outside of Kremmling on Trough Road. This location is a waterman’s paradise as it is literally feet away from some of the best fly fishing and floating in the state. The campground offers three boat launches with two being paved and one rail launch, 20 standard campsites that hold up to ten, two group sites that hold up to 30 people, and four easily accessible vault toilets. This location is ideal for rafting enthusiast looking for a class two section of whitewater to float along and as well as it being a designated gold medal cold water trout fishery. If you are looking for a walk and wade section I recommend hiking up into Gore Canyon while if you plan on jumping on a drift boat head down river to Rancho Del Rio, Radium, or State Bridge take outs.
Wolford Campground
If you plan on avoiding the crowds and are looking for something RV friendly with better amenities we recommend looking into Wolford Campground just north of town. This location offers 48 pull through sites with 50/30 amp electric hook up, central water, central dumpsite. Roughly fifty percent of these sites are covered, and reservations can be made up to Wednesday before the weekend of check in. This resort can offer pontoon rentals, they do also have work class fly fishing just below the reservoir on Muddy Creek where you can try your luck for 30” trophy in the pour over at the reservoir itself or enjoy the best of dry fly season in the creek itself. If you do venture down the creek, make sure you are covered head to toe as this location is notorious for its starving mosquitos.
Mugrage Campground
Our next recommendation is great for year-round camping if you are not afraid to weather the cold over the winter months. Mugrage Campground is an excellent location as it is the only free site listed in these options and is just a short hike from Radium Hot Springs which is primitive and naturally beautiful. As this location is just off of the Colorado River and is just a bit further down Trough Road than Pumphouse, it is only 15 minutes drive to utilize their facilities as this is a primitive site with no vaulted toilets or boat launches.
