What National Monument Status Means for Brown’s Canyon

We are excited to celebrate Brown’s Canyon on the Arkansas River becoming a National Monument. But, first off lets begin to discuss what a National Monument means. A National Monument means the U.S. government is going to protect this area of land. Any National monument is managed by at least one of many federal agencies. These agencies include, the National Park Service, the Forest Service, the Fish and Wildlife Service, and lastly the Bureau of Land Management. Some older and more historic national monuments may also be controlled by the United States War Department.

Here in the beautiful mountainous state of Colorado we are proud of having many national monuments. There are National Monuments statewide and they include the Colorado National Monument, Rocky Mountain National park, Black Canyon, Great Sand Dunes National Park, Mesa Verde National Park and last but not least the newest addition to the National Monument list, the rafter’s paradise Brown’s Canyon! Brown’s Canyon is one of the most popular destinations in the U.S. for white water rafting. Colorado River Rentals partner company, AVA Rafting offers trips on the Arkansas river for a fun filled time. But you can always rent a raft or other river gear from CRR and take it down to the Arkansas River!

Either way, whether you commercially or privately raft the Arkansas River, the declaration of Brown’s Canyon being a National Monument is a huge deal! We recommend checking out any of the National Monuments in Colorado!
