The Stanley Hotel is located in Estes Park and is one of the most haunted hotels in the United States. With four hundred and twenty rooms, there is plenty of room for some awesome facts. It is mostly known for being the inspiration for the film The Shining. It is highly reported to have multiple hauntings and it has become a very documented spot. Here are a few fun facts about the historically haunted hotel.
- The Stanley Hotel was almost called “The Dunraven”. Disliked by many of the locals already, the hotel was controlled by over 100 signatures that were against the Dunraven name. To this day, most believe Mr. Dunraven still haunts the hotel, especially in room 407.
- Stanley of the Stanley Hotel is also the same Stanley of Stanley Steamer. Needless to say he was very well off and insisted he pay cash for everything, including the construction of the hotel.
- The Stanley Hotel is home to a casino, airstrip and shooting range.
- The Stanley Hotel is one of America’s Most Haunted Hotels. Haunted reports started as far back as 1911.
- Hundreds of paranormal investigations take place every year, especially in room 217. This is said to be the most haunted room in the hotel but it is only one of 8 haunted rooms. Room 401 is also arguably the most haunted in the hotel. You’ll have to find out for yourself!
- Multiple ghosts are said to haunt the hotel, and some investigators have now named them. There’s the Irish man named Lord Dunraven, a ghost cowboy, maintenance man Paul, Lucy the young girl, Elizabeth Wilson the maid, and Eddie the stinky man.
- The Stanley Hotel brought power to Estes Park. A hydroelectric power plant was built to power the hotel and brought power to Estes Park in 1909. Just two years before its first paranormal incident.
