Gore Canyon Trip Highlight

When spring has sprung and the birds begin the chirp, the snow starts slowly dissipates into a muddy mess. Spring in the High Rockies, during late April early May, isn’t always the most fun, as the snow is patchy and the normally beautiful mountains are slushy mess of mud. This time of season is referred to as mud season, and rightfully so. For a lot of locals and tourists this is not their favorite time of the year, but for river enthusiasts this is the start of rafting season! One of the best trips in Colorado for the seasoned paddler is the Colorado River’s Gore Canyon section, as it offers excellent class V whitewater.

Gore Canyon is the Colorado River confluences’ crown jewel. This class V section is highly regarded as one of the hardest whitewater trips in the contiguous United States for its steep elevation drop as well as its meticulous twists and turns through out the trip. Gore Canyon will require guests to have previous whitewater experience on highly rated sections of white water. This trip is not meant for the faint of heart, as all guests of AVA Rafting will be required to perform a swim test on the day of the trip. The swim test is a swim through a class III rapid as well as swimming under the boat and pulling yourself in. This will test your ability to stay calm and methodical in a stressful situation where self rescue may be required. Gore offers a 14-foot vertical waterfall and five other amazing class V rapids.
