Having trouble finding the perfect gift for that person in your life who eats, breathes, and lives anything outdoorsy? Are you planning some epic adventures rafting rivers, hiking fourteeners, camping amongst the stars, or just spending time outside in fresh air surrounded by natural beauty? Take a break from your Facebook newsfeed, emails, and text messages and dive into the outdoors!

  1. Water bottle or Water Reservoir: If you find yourself up in the Colorado Rocky Mountains, you need to stay extra hydrated. This is because with every breath you exhale, you lose fluid at such high elevation.
  2. Repair kit: Be prepared for whatever Mother Nature throws at you and be sure to have a repair kit handy in case you tear clothing, rip a hole in your tent or sleeping bag, or compromise any of your gear.
  3. Headlamp/Flashlight: Unless you’re playing hide and go seek, no one wants to find themselves in the dark searching for something, especially in the wilderness. Carry a source of light no matter how short your trip!
  4. Clothing for Layering: Always bring extra clothing; make sure it can help keep you dry even when you’re sweating and isn’t bulky so you can store it away without being encumbered by heavy clothing items.
  5. Map & Compass: This is essential to rule out getting lost and keeping yourself out of a hairy situation.
  6. First aid kit: Cuts, scrapes, blisters, insect bites, sunburns – among other things – should be addressable with your first aid kit handy.
  7. Matches and Firestarter: Bring some fire starter material such as dry kindling, candles, or lint to use with your matches to get a fire roaring so  you can warm up next to your fire.
  8. fire-846152_1920Overnight gear: For those extra long backcountry adventures, bring a sleeping bag and tent for some shut eye between your explorations.
  9. Multi Tool Knife: Most multi-tool knives are made of durable steel and include screwdrivers, saws and can openers, so make sure whichever you chose can accommodate most of your outdoor needs.
  10. Backpack: To carry all your essential items, chose a backpack that is durable. Features to think about when looking for the perfect outdoor backpack include pockets, a raincover for unexpected showers, padding to make your excursion more comfortable, ventilation to curb sweaty backs, and the capacity necessary for the length of your trip.
