3 Winter Activities on the Upper Colorado River

If you’re looking into some awesome winter activities around the Upper Colorado River then I highly recommend reading further! Looking for a specific place to check out alongside this river can be a pretty difficult task due to the extreme beauty of all the towns surrounding it. One of my personal favorite little river towns is Kremmling, it is located about two hours away from Denver and is a truly picturesque place. I’ve put together a list of some of the fun things you and your group can partake in during this frigid holiday season.

Ice Fishing

Ice fishing or even ice skating is a very popular activity during this time of year and there is an abundance of places to do so here in Kremmling. Not only is the Upper Colorado an awesome spot to cast a line and catch a trout, but there is also Kremmling’s very well-known Wolford Reservoir. The reservoir is located about 7 miles outside of town and the season usually runs from December-March, depending on the weather. This location offers amazing ice fishing opportunities, they even offer annual fishing tournaments. Keep in mind that anyone over the age of 16 needs to have a license for the sport. Make sure to check out this amazing reservoir surrounded by beautiful nature and be sure to bring your tents because they have some awesome campsites year-round. This is definitely an amazing family-friendly location to visit this winter and I guarantee you and your group won’t regret adding it to your trip route.

Hot Springs

Another great option to look into during the colder months is the Radium Hot Springs. These are located close to town, but be sure to wear good shoes, because you’ll need to take a short 1.1-mile hike down to the springs. These gorgeous hot springs have an amazing overlook of the awesome Upper Colorado River and are a great opportunity to view the surrounding wildlife. Be sure to bring your binoculars if you want to get up close and personal with them! This location is also a very popular spot during the summer due to it having nearby cliff jumping access. It’s safe to say, your whole group will find enjoyment at the hot springs year round!

Last but certainly not least, try dedicating some time this winter to check out Colorado Sled Rentals. This company is located in Kremmling, which is known as the “Motorsport Capital of Grand County” due to tons of ATV and OHV trails in the area. I’d highly recommend renting some sleds this season if you’re looking for some more exciting adventures to partake in. Remember, you need to be at least 16 years of age in order to operate one of these sleds, and be sure to dress warmly. This company also offers RZR rentals as well if that sounds like a better option for your group. This is definitely a town worth riding some sleds around and it will give you a great chance to view the beautiful scenery and wildlife around the wonderful town of Kremmling.

In conclusion, Kremmling is an amazing little winter town that is full of amazing activities to partake in this season. It’s a bit of a drive from the city but I guarantee it will be a trip that your group remembers for a lifetime!
