Everything You Need for an Overnight Rafting Trip

Now that the snow is beginning to melt and the skies are sunny longer and longer throughout the day, the time is now to secure your summer vacation plan. With the snow pack slowly starting to dissipate and more and more brown appearing around 12,000ft, now is the time to book your multiday rafting trip with AVA. Although there is still a solid two months of skiing here in the high country you will not want to miss your opportunity to lock down your ideal date for this year’s whitewater season. Packing and preparing for your overnight rafting trip may sound like a daunting task so in this article we will break it down into three easy sections: on water gear, camp site gear and extra things you will want to consider.

Raft-Guide-Trainging-Colorado-STRAs far as what you will want to pack while on the water you will want to pack light and dry. You will want a dry fit type material shirt to keep the cold river water off of your body, a bathing suit for under your wet suit, secure footwear such as old tennis shoes and lastly waterproof sunscreen. Now that you are off the water and back on dry land make sure you stay warm; pack plenty of base layers to keep you warm, flip flops to let your feet dry off, a light rain jacket incase of summer showers and a sleeping bag if you have not already arranged for one. We will supply all camping needs including food and tents but will not provide adult beverages while at camp, so if you plan on bringing your own make sure it is not in glass! As far as electronics I would recommend leaving all of them in your car; cell service is typically non existent and you don’t want to water damage your several thousand dollar DSLR camera.
