Wildlife and Foliage on the Colorado River

blue_river__colorado_by_bmfa-d32z3ikAre you planning a trip on the Colorado River? If so, be prepared for some of the most beautiful scenery in the grand ol‘ state of Colorado. At AVA Rafting and Zipline we offer a few different rafting experiences on the Upper Colorado River, we have full day, ½ day and overnight float trips as well. We also rent all kinds of rafting gear as well as stand-up paddle boards and inflatable kayaks. The Upper Colorado River is famous for its stunning views as well as a variation of foliage and wildlife sightings

In the summer months on the Upper Colorado River, you’ll take in the full beauty and adventure of Colorado’s scenic canyon country. Animals actively roam in this area, and common wildlife sightings include mule deer and elk. Be sure to take caution around Green Mountain Reservoir for crossing wildlife. Bears are sighted more often on our Colorado River rafting trips than on any other river section we run, but they’re still elusive creatures. Beaver and otters are often seen in the water, and if you look to the sky while paddling through calm river sections, you’re likely to spot red tail hawks, bald eagles, and turkey vultures flying around.

The most obvious being the alpine tundra and coniferous forests in its headwaters and upper elevations. The surrounding semiarid plateaus and canyons support piñon pine, juniper, and sagebrush. Don’t forget about the truly arid landscapes dotted with creosote bush and other desert plants in the lower basin and delta. Whether you are coming from Breckenridge or Buena Vista, don’t miss the fields of colorful wildflowers along the way!
